In November 2019, Cambodia hosted its first VERNADOC Camp, an initiative that studies and documents buildings of special architectural and anthropological value.

12 young Cambodian volunteers and eight professional architects attended the first VERNADOC Camp in Cambodia, sponsored by ULS.

The camp was led by the Cambodian branch of VERNADOC – an organization started in 2005 by Finnish architect Markku Mattila and a group of volunteer architects, to keep record of vernacular construction systems and buildings. Today, VERNADOC’s camps take place all around the world.

During each camp, professional architects teach young students specific methods of data collection, using basic techniques on site. This allows to produce high quality, measured drawings of actual buildings, which are then archived in a shared register.

During this first edition in the Kingdom, 12 young Cambodian volunteers and eight professional architects from Malaysia, Finland and Thailand, worked together for two weeks documenting both the Preah Vihear temple in Wat Boddhi Rokkharam, and the Dhamma Sabha Hall, part of a larger Buddhist complex located in Kampong Chhnang province.

Urban Living Solutions had the pleasure to sponsor the first VERNADOC Camp in Cambodia contributing to volunteers’ expenses and introducing their outstanding results to the public through a 10-day exhibition held at Factory Phnom Penh in mid-December 2019.
