Meet Joe Slater

Originally from London, Joe joined ULS as Art Director and Senior Designer in February 2020. A true design and publishing pro, Joe developed a keen interest in type and typography by observing letterforms and colors used in graffiti. Back in the UK, he worked with Creative Review and various cycling titles. He never lost his street cred though, and often freelanced for clubs and independent record labels. In 2011, a job with Asia Life Magazine brought him to Cambodia where he has lived ever since. Most recently, Joe worked with leading magazines such as Globe and Discover, collaborated with SEAbased publishing and marketing companies, and supported with his creative work the marketing efforts of small creative businesses.

In his free time, Joe carries his 195CM frame around Phnom Penh on one of his two bicycles, constantly thinking back to when he was a bicycle courier, zig zagging through the streets of London while rethinking the kerning of his last layout. Also, Joe laid out what you are now holding in your hands.
